Strengths & limitations
Pros
- Unbeatable price-to-performance ratio

- Larger build volume (220 × 220 × 250 mm)
Cons
- Slower than Bambu Lab
- More manual calibration required
- Stock extruder is mediocre
Who should buy it?
A good fit if you…
- Buyers prioritizing 3D printers that fit their specific use case and budget.
Look elsewhere if you…
- Buyers who need a different feature set, check the alternatives below.
Setup and First Impressions
The Ender-3 V3 ships mostly assembled, attaching the gantry, routing cables, and running the auto-calibration sequence takes around 45 minutes.
This is longer than the Bambu Lab A1 (15 minutes) but significantly less than the older Ender-3 models that required full assembly.
Creality's first-run calibration routine handles nozzle offset and runs a 25-point bed mesh automatically.
Print Quality
At 150–200 mm/s, the Ender-3 V3 produces excellent prints.
Dimensional accuracy is within 0.15mm of target, surface finish is smooth, and layer adhesion is strong across PLA and PETG.
The CoreXZ motion system is a meaningful upgrade over the older Ender-3's Cartesian design.
Prints at the same speed show notably less ringing than the V2, and the stiffer gantry reduces vibration artifacts.
Klipper Firmware
Klipper is pre-installed and accessible via a web interface (Fluidd UI) on your local network.
This is a double-edged sword.
For beginners, the web interface can feel overwhelming compared to a touchscreen slicer integration.
Creality ships the V3 with sensible default Klipper configs that produce good prints without touching anything.
Material Performance
PLA prints are excellent, smooth surfaces, strong layer adhesion, consistent temperatures.
PETG is equally strong, though the evidence suggests the stock 0.4mm nozzle benefits from slowing to 180 mm/s for the best surface finish with glossy PETG.
TPU is where the Creality Sprite direct drive extruder shows its limitations.
At 30 mm/s (recommended for flex filaments), we had one failed print in five due to filament slipping in the extruder.
Community and Ecosystem
The Ender-3 platform has the largest 3D printing community in the world.
Every failure mode, calibration technique, upgrade path, and mod is documented on Reddit (r/ender3), YouTube, and dedicated forums.
For beginners who are willing to learn, this is invaluable, you will never encounter a problem that hasn't been solved 50 times over.
Creality's open-source approach means you can flash any Klipper config, swap the mainboard, upgrade the extruder, add an accelerometer, or enclose the printer, all without voiding a meaningful warranty.
Is the Ender-3 V3 Worth Buying Over the Bambu Lab A1?
If you're on a strict budget, the V3 is the clear choice.
If you enjoy tinkering and learning how 3D printers work, the V3 is the better educational tool.
If you value open-source and don't want proprietary lock-in, the V3 wins decisively.
Our honest assessment: for most people who want to simply make great prints, the A1 is the better buy.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Creality Ender-3 V3 good for beginners?
It's beginner-friendly by older Ender-3 standards but not as easy as the Bambu Lab A1. The auto bed leveling and pre-installed Klipper help significantly. Budget an extra hour to learn the Fluidd web interface and run calibration tests. If you're willing to learn, the massive community means any problem you encounter is solvable with a quick search.
What is the difference between the Ender-3 V3 and V3 KE?
The standard V3 uses CoreXZ motion and CR Touch leveling. The KE is better for flexible filaments (direct drive grip); the V3 has the more open Klipper ecosystem. Both print at similar real-world quality.
Can the Ender-3 V3 print ABS?
Yes, but it requires a DIY enclosure to prevent warping. An open-frame printer allows temperature fluctuations that cause ABS to delaminate on larger prints. If you print ABS regularly, a dedicated enclosed printer like the Bambu Lab P1S is a better long-term investment.
How does the Ender-3 V3 compare to the Prusa MK4S?
For hobbyists and budget buyers, the V3 wins on value. For schools, businesses, and users who need machines running 5+ years without issues, the MK4S justifies its price.
