Our research methodology
No black boxes: here's exactly how a product goes from 'on the market' to 'on our shortlist', and what we refuse to claim.

The five steps
1. Map the category
We define the category's real use cases first, who buys this, and what do they actually need it to do? That decides which products are even eligible.
2. Gather verifiable facts
Manufacturer specifications, documented features, dimensions, compatibility, and warranty terms. If a claim can't be sourced, it doesn't enter our analysis.
3. Read reputable independent reviews
We weight established publications and experienced reviewers over anonymous one-liners, and we look for consensus across sources, not outliers.
4. Analyze owner-feedback patterns
We read large volumes of verified-owner feedback looking for patterns: what breaks after six months, what delights, what the spec sheet didn't mention.
5. Rank by value for real use cases
Picks are ordered by value, performance relative to price for a defined buyer, not by who pays us. Nobody pays us; placements aren't for sale.
What we don't claim
- Hands-on lab testing we haven't performed. Our work is research synthesis, and every page says so.
- Star ratings, review counts, or prices inside our content, those change constantly and we won't present stale or invented numbers as fact.
- That a pick is right for everyone. Every recommendation names its tradeoffs and its ideal buyer.
Keeping it current
Categories evolve, so we revisit roundups periodically: discontinued products are removed, new standouts are added, and significant updates refresh the guidance. Each page shows its last-updated date.
