Sony WH-CH720N Review

Light Weight Is the Hidden Strength

At about 192 grams, the CH720N is one of the lightest ANC over-ears available. That makes a real difference over long wear, especially for people who find heavier headphones press on the top of the head.

The trade-off is a plasticky build. It doesn't fold flat into a compact case like premium models, though the earcups swivel.

Noise Cancelling for the Price

Independent reviews consistently rate its ANC as effective for low rumble, such as bus engines and air conditioning, though weaker than the XM5 or XM6 for voices and sudden noises. For commuting and office use, it is more than adequate.

The Sony Headphones app offers adjustable ambient sound, an equalizer and adaptive sound control.

Sound and Battery

Sound is balanced with a mild bass lift, adjustable via the app. There's no LDAC, so Android users get AAC or SBC; for most listeners, the difference matters less than fit and noise cancelling.

Sony rates the battery at up to 35 hours with ANC on, longer than many flagship headphones.

Who Should Spend More

Frequent flyers who want the strongest cancellation should consider Sony's XM line or Bose's QuietComfort headphones. For commuting, studying and everyday use, the CH720N delivers most of the benefit for much less.
